Goodness, goodness, goodness

GRACIOUS

My weeks are crazy. But my life is good. I didn't make the ORCA on time, but that's okay. I'm still doing research and am still really open to any ideas.

Oh how i would love to study community nutrition and sustainable farming!
Oh how i would love to devote my time to Tibetian mythology!
Oh how i would love to understand Tibetian idioms!
Oh how i would love to study the roots of Tibetian rhetoric, and find the different Tibetian rhetorical situations- understanding their perception of time
Oh how i would love to live in India for 3 months and research what my heart finds!

Oh, how i would love to wake up everyday and look at growing mountains, find quiet places, meet incredible women, swim in mountain water, pick produce, laugh,
and get credit for it all.

SO-
the western use of rhetoric was conceptualized in terms of individual v.s. state- or more dialectical reasons. does the rhetoric of Tibetan narrative resonate with its political roots? If the epic, or ceremonial story, portrays the values of a culture (as theorized in western literature) how will the values portrayed by Tibetan narratives reflect historical and current Tibetan values?

or

how do you cook a pilaf with all the right ingredients for a 12-year old girl?
---

the winter is coming. i have three days a week that i can be outside. they have been glorious days, and i know they will get shorter and shorter and colder and colder and then longer and longer and hotter and hotter.
i'm thankful to live in places where seasons live, rather than just pass.

Free Willy's Transendence

Thanks for comments.
I'm still really interested in everything I listed, especailly nutrition(Ayurvedic would be incredible to study) and community health and mythology and stars and stories of monsters and tibetan religious dieties and the third eye and .....

So- you get it.

I'm starting a Tibetan story that has been translated into English in order to write the grant proposal. The story is called "___ (left it in my other backpack)___" .
Currently, I'm thinking about- narrative, Tibetan rhetoric in fiction or "aesthetics" according to Aristotle, Idea of Love/Portrayal of love... or whatever i come out with.

I'm going to draft the grant this weekend, i'll post a draft up- maybe roughly or final. I gotta make:

BRAINSTORM (....ouch... ouch!.... what the hail?)

These are ideas. I have no idea what I will study, and I plan on entering the field with ideas. These are premortal ideas.
I will (probably) go to Dharamsala, India to conduct a field study. I am currently an undergraduate and open major. I plan to claim English (focusing on rhetoric) as a major, and minor in nutrition- but the truth is that i'm interested in everything. But, I want to apply for a grant by the end of this month, so I'm narrowing.

Some possible projects that tickle my inner dork-
  • Nutrition's effect on creating a community and validating Tibetan culture in exile
  • How the idea of love is portrayed in Tibetan love stories (compared to western literature)
  • The Tibetan narrative compared to western narrative
  • The Tibetian Epic?
  • Tibetan rhetoric in Tibetan folk song- organic rhetorical devices and how they differ from western rhetoric
  • Tibetan Ethics- practiced and observed
  • Rhetoric in Tibetan Buddhist teachings
  • Hang out in a convent and see what happens
  • Tibetan folklore/mythology/astrology
  • Nutrition and Sustainability- practices of the community in McLeod Ganj
And- inner dork is not a bad thing. In fact, I tap into it frequently. Its almost a zen.
The inner dork loves to wear snowboarding goggles when she rides her bike to school. The rain is just an excuse.

The ORCA grant is due by the end of october- I need to write a two page proposal and select a professor/mentor to work with through my entire project. I have talked to my rhetoric prof, my british literature prof, and my lit theory and critisim prof about possibly being a mentor and they all have the time. I will select one of these projects to write the orca grant about, and write up a proposal for the professor I choose to work with.
I'm thinking i'll go with my literary theory prof- i like her a lot, she is a midevilist, she can speak old english, she knows a lot of stuff about things and crap, AND if i do choose narritive/literature to study, theory and critical acceptance of language is rhetorical. :)

what do you think of the possible project ideas? suggestions? insights?
